Ten days ago I took my TOEFL test. When I decided to take a language examination for purpose of application for PhD, TOEFL was my first choice for several reasons. First of all, I thought that TOEFL was harder to pass than IELTS, secondly, I was sure that TOEFL if more commonly preferable in universities all around the world, and third, the main reason, was that IELTS is in my view a mainstream (almost all of my mates took IELTS, so, I inferred, that it is easier to pass IELTS, and I'm not so weak to pick easiest way). Thus, I registered for TOEFL (but a month after that I decided to take IELTS too) and tried to prepare. I had several online lessons with an amazing tutor from USA, but he suddenly stopped our training sessions. I watched several video lectures about speaking and writing parts of the test. And on July, 6 I came to the testing centre scared that I would fail the test.
First two parts were relatively easy (I never had troubles with reading and listening parts), so I tried to pass through them as quickly as I could in order to be the first who would start speaking section (I was afraid that other test takers' voices would bother me). But I was forced to wait for 10 minutes - official break, so I started my speaking test about 2-3 minutes before the girl who was sitting next to me. And speaking section was a disaster for me.The first two questions I answered like an aborigine, in a bad manner, I thought nobody would understand what I wanted to say (not because of my bad speaking skills, but bacause of my stress and temporal inability to speak clearly and coherently). During the answer for the 4th question I noticed that it was only 10 seconds left and I had to talk about another point, so I got literally stunned and was silent for almost 5 seconds. Therefore I was expecting at most 15-17 out of 30 for this section. Last section (writing) was not so bad, at least I did my best. But after the test I suddenly realised that may be I didn't understand the topic for independent writing well enough. So I was expecting about 20-22 out of 30 for this test.
Yesterday I got an email, informing that my scores were posted online. To say that I was amazed is to say nothing.
So, GRE General and GRE Mathematics are on my way. Besides I have to resit two university exams.
